Chapter #1
In the begining chapter number one they introduce Maniac Magee, He was born in an ordinary house in Bridgeport, he used to have a regular Mother and father but not for long. His left maniac with a sitter and took the P & W high speed trolley into the city, but on the way back they were involved in a crash where the motorman was drunk and took the high trestle over the Schuylkill River at sixty miles an hour, and it flipped into the River and hthey drowned. That was the day Maniac Magee became an orphan at the young age of three. Actually Maniac's real name was Jeffrey Lionel Magee. Now he had to live with his nearest relatives Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan, they lived in Holidaysburg, Pennsylvania. Actually it's kind of wierd because Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan hated each other and the only reson they were still together was because both were strict Catholics, and they would not get a divorce. They had basically two of everything refrigerators, TVs , Bathrooms, and many other things. Jeffrey was part of the chorus, so the first time the two had toshare the same room was when they had to go to the auditorium to watch the performance. Jeffrey started screaming at the start of the song Talk to the animals, but nobody noticed his screaming because of all the other kids voices. That is nobody noticed until the music stopped, but then know knew but it was the birth scream of a legend. That day was the first day Maniac started running everyone was screaming as Maniac leaped off the stage. He never returned to his aunt or unlces house, or the school ever again.

In this chapter Maniac Magee is still on his first day being on the west end. Also today there was a commotion happening on the west end and the place it was happening at was 803 Oriole street. This was the address was the Finsterwald's. All of the kids always stayed away from this address. Nobody know though what would happen if a kid did not know follow the rules and stay away. Once a boy started screaming and it was coming from the Finsterwald's but nobody never knew who, where, or what he was screaming about. The boy was said to be Arnold Jones. Also in this chapter they explain how he got to the point where he was screaming. Apparentley Arnold Jones was put in to the air above the Finsterwald's fence. But Arnold was screaming help! Please! Help! But the highschoolers did not listen to him and they still threw him over the fence and right in to the Finsterwald's fence. The story is that the HIghschoolers kept on listening to Arnold through the fence, and they could hear his teeth chattering and one of the highschoolers yelled "he's got the Finsterwallies!"
But the highschoolers did not keep on laughing years later they changed hthe story and said that there was a kid who came from nowhere and hopped the fence with no boost. Another kid said that he just opened the gate and walked in. The other highschooler said that it was just a hulucination cause by 803 Oriole street. Arnold had such a bad case of the Finsterwallies that he kept on shaking a minute after he had been knocked out. They say in the book that a phantom samaritan out his book in his mouth, and actually came and carried Arnold's carcass over his shoulder and took him out of there. They say he put him down right on the Finsterwald's front steps. When Arnold noticed where he was he ran really fast away from there. As the highschoolers were leaving the scene they the kid who had saved him take his book and open it and read it.

In this chapter they talk about when Maniac Magee was spotted at hte Little League baseball Diamond. When Maniac arrived the team that was playing the Red Sox had just won because of their star pitcher John McNab, who struck out sixteen batters to set a new Little League record. But don't think that the John in this chapter was small he was five foot eight and he was over a hundred and seventy pounds, and he was still only twelve. That day it was still pretty light out, and John wanted to stretch out his record as long as he could and even though the official game was over he still wanted to face more of the Green Soxes batters. cnab was striking out all the batters, there wasn't even a catcher the ball just zoomed to the backstop. By the time Maniac was up to the plate McNab's strike out total was up to thirty five. McNab saw this little scrawny kid step up to the plate with a book, that he put down on the plate. McNab at first told him to go away, since he was not a member of Little League. But Maniac just took a red cap from the next guy in line, and went back up to the plate, but John McNab thought it was a joke and started laughing. So John went along with it, and he fired as hard as he could. The kid swung and all the other kids turned to the backstop where the ball should have been but it wasn't there it was in the air above McNab's head. Nobody had ever seen someone hit one of McNab's balls like that so they all froze in silence.McNab screamed "Get my hat, Get my ball!" McNab got his stuff back and this time he through it so fast he thought for sure the kid could not hit it. But the kid hit it in to deep left center field. The crowd was in silence again. McNab got the ball back, he was mad now he windmilled his arms and fired as hard as he could this time the kid hit it over the fence! Now all the kids cheered. McNab through three more pitches, and the kid hit three more home runs.
Now McNab was so mad, the next he through the ball it was right at the kids head. The kid did not swing at the ball so he called strike one! The next pitch was at his gut, strike two! The next pitch was at the kids knees, but the kid still swung at it and hit it in to center field. McNab amde up an excuse that he couldn't pitch because he had to go to the washroom so he went in to the bushes. When he finally came back he through a ball but it wasn't actuall a ball it a frog, so the kid bunted it. So the kid started running and the ball started moving, he had almost made it all all around and the crowd was cheering and just touched home plate for an inside the park homerun on a bunt. After he got the homerun he started running again and McNab yelled "don't stop until your out of town!, that is how Maniac got a homerun by bunting a frog.
